Blessed with friends....

Every once in a while I wake up to the reality that high school wasn't just yesterday and that I'm not still living the dream of traveling the globe as an English teacher. Throughout the years of degrees, boyfriends, break-ups and long-distance telephone calls the one thing that has remained constant are the friends I have kept.

The past two weeks I've been lucky enough to catch up with a core group of friends who haven't abandoned me over the many years (and countries) I've chosen. These are the people that keep me forever young......

Jos and I have been friends for nearly 20 years

I met Laurel through Jos - we've been friends now for 5 years

Blythe and I met in uni - over 13 years ago

I'm one excited sister.....

I got the phone call this past weekend from my younger brother letting me know that he had proposed to his girlfriend. I'm so excited ~ my brother is the first one in the family to be getting married. Another new chapter in our lives! I can't wait.....

An evening learning our nation's sport

So hockey really isn't Canada's sport. Oh sure, we eat, sleep and breathe it. We may excel at it worldwide but hockey is not really officially Canada's sport.

What is? Lacrosse.

This weekend I took in my first lacrosse game ever, going to see the Edmonton Rush take on the Washington Stealth with my friends Nikki and Amanda. Fast-paced and highly addictive I need to learn the rules to this game. I can see myself quickly becoming a fan.

Birthdays, bowling and saying goodbye to my Regina home

Man it feels like I did a lot of driving this past weekend. Oh wait, I did. From Edmonton to Saskatoon on Friday night I had five hours of my own thoughts and a gorgeous prairie sunset. A quick stop-over at my sister's house to recharge overnight. Then it was on to our brother's house in Regina.

This weekend was eerily reminiscent of my trip down to Regina last year around this time. At the tail end of my holidays then I was down to celebrate my sister's and my brother's girlfriend's birthdays. It was much the same this year ~ right down to bowling at the same bowling hall and wearing funny hats. I love my family.

What was different this year is that it was the last time we could all get together as a family at my brother's house in Regina. He and his girlfriend have sold their place and are moving back to my hometown to start farming with my father. I can't wait to have them closer to home so that we can all be together during holidays. What a fantastic weekend to celebrate birthdays and time with family!
