Camping at Medicine Lake

August in Canada always kicks off with a long weekend. Heritage Day on the first Monday of August is when Canadians celebrate their heritage.

For the second year in a row I chose to celebrate my heritage by getting back to the land with friends Paisley and Denise. Last year we had an amazing camping trip at Bleriot Ferry and this year thanks to some great homework done by Denise we headed west into the foothills to the tiny campground at Medicine Lake.

This campground was gorgeous! We weren't far from the lake and it's amazing views. We were well sheltered and fairly private from any other campers at our cute little site. There was plenty of opportunity to get to know the neighbours though ~ this campground is pet friendly so there was always someone walking a dog.

We didn't have as many hiking or sight-seeing adventures as last year but we still had a lot of laughs and unplugged from work and from our lives in Edmonton and Calgary. We tried fishing and caught a lot of "salad" instead. We played on the swings. We cooked gourmet, smoky meals. Best of all we listened, supported and laughed with and at each other.

Thanks again Paisley and Denise! Next year we take our show on the road to my hometown. I can't wait!

  1. Hello Andrea

Oh how much fun (and bonding) together.

    The photo's look great.
Did you have a shower is what I would love to know - or was it the embracing and refreshing dip in the lake to take those daily oils away?

I do remember camping in the middle of summer in north Queenssland one time (can you imagine how hot it was) and there were no showers but we used the refreshing creeks and streams to wash and cool off.
(no apparent crocodile sightings for the last 5 days the rangers said!!!)

I lasted 4 days and HAD to wash my hair - here I was in the lush Daintree with shampoo all over my hair - seriously you would have thought I had won the lottery.
(PS sorry environment for the shampoo toxins washed down stream)

Love your post and photos - thanks for the entertainment :)

  2. Ummm....errr...well we neither swam nor showered. Hence why all females camped together. :( We do have a lovely camp shower for next year though!

Thanks for chiming in Loulou, have a lovely weekend!
